Thursday thrills

My evening spinning class was unexpectedly cancelled, so I got home early with nothing to do and finally had a chance to sit down and paint my nails:

I really enjoy nail polish, but sometimes it seems impossible to find the time, even with a quick-dry coat.  I used to be afraid to wear dark or bold colors because I have big rower paws instead of delicate mannequin hands and I work in a conservative environment, but one day I got over it (and it helps that my boss’s boss wears strange shades of polish), and now I prefer them!  Embarrassingly enough, this polish is one of the Gossip Girl shades for Nicole by OPI (‘Too Rich For You’), but it was exactly the color I was looking for at the time, so who cares.

Today’s other little thrill was the arrival of a Sephora package.  I needed some boring skincare stuff that I was running out of, but I try to wait to place an order until I see a special insider bonus that I like.  A lot of them don’t interest me because I’m pretty set in my ways when it comes to skincare products.  I do like sample-sizes of cosmetics that I haven’t tried, though, and I’ve never used anything by Benefit, so I jumped on this one:

It’s  got a few minis: High Beam highlighter, Posie Tint cheek/lip tint, and Bad Gal Lash in both black and plum.  I’m trying them all this weekend!

Did anything thrill you today?

  • Happy Friday!

The best top coat I’ve tried so far is Sally Hansen’s Mega Shine in the silver bottle. It dries nails in 5 mins or less and leaves a super glossy finish. Ulta has it for about $3.50 and Target/Drugstores carry it for closer to $6. So worth every penny :-); it even dries 3-4 coats in 5-10 mins.

I’m getting rid of my acrylics this weekend (I have a love/hate relationship with them and I am so over them right now) so I’ll be free to polish my nails as much as I want :-D.

      Happy Friday to you, too!

I have had acrylics a few times. LOVED how strong they were and how fast polish dries on them. Hated having to get them refilled! I tried to teach myself and it did not go well.

I’ve been on a Benefit kick lately, thanks to having discovered the joy of their brow bar, and I have found some real winners in their line. Posietint is the perfect shade of blushing pink on me, but you have to blend FAST before it dries. I like their powder blushes, Bad Gal mascara in plum, and several of the creaseless cream shadows. The Porefessional primer has been in heavy rotation during our recent spate of warm weather, but the other primers have left me cold. I skip the highlighters too – they are a bit much on my aging skin!

Overall, I really like the line. It’s not huge but it has some real gems.
