By Amber, on December 21, 2010, at 10:00 pm Last Christmas I ordered a bunch of gifts from Amrita Singh and earned a reward certificate. I held onto it until last month, when I decided I’d better buy something before it expired! I paid only shipping on these earrings, which came today:

Pretty, right? But did you notice that the one on the right is missing a couple pieces? Bummer. I contacted the company about an exchange. My experience with their customer service has been very positive in the past, so hopefully this will go smoothly as well.
If you get onto their email list, they do a lot of promotions throughout the year. I’d estimate that about half of them are discounts and the other half are free merchandise with a minimum order (BTW, and I say this as someone who loves their merchandise, don’t ever pay full price for anything over $40). I didn’t expect that ordering with a reward certificate would qualify me for any of these offers, so I was very surprised to find this in the box:

I have some of their earrings in the same color, but they’re awfully blingy to wear together. Still, who doesn’t love fun, free jewelry?
The one thing in the box that really puzzled me was this:

I guess someone got a deal on printing..?
By Amber, on May 30, 2010, at 10:00 pm With my big vacation for the year fast approaching, I did a little shopping. If you recall, I was in the mood for a stack of gold bangles. These were exactly what I had in mind, but the $100 price tag was not working for me:
Amrita Singh is having a big Memorial Day sale (50% off any order) and I have a sizeable reward credit left over from their winter holiday promotion, but I was pretty sure I could get the look without using $50 of my credit. I headed over to Harwin Street this weekend and paid about $12 for these:
Not bad, eh? Maybe they’re not quite as pretty, but they’re cute enough for me! If any of them get broken or bent during my travels, I won’t be mentally calculating the loss. I love a good deal!
I haven’t resolved the gold flip-flops issue. It seems like all the pairs I like the most have terrible reviews on Zappos. My sister says Havaianas are worth the price, but I’m still thinking. I used to have rubber flip-flops in a rainbow of colors, but hours of Stacy & Clinton convinced me it was time to start wearing real shoes when I’m not at the beach, and I got rid of almost all of them — so now I wear leather flip-flops around town all summer, instead. I like to tell myself they’re slightly more respectable. :)
By Amber, on March 18, 2010, at 9:58 pm When my sister and I get a really good deal on something, we like to tease our husbands about how much money we saved them. Sort of like when you get such a good coupon that you’d be losing money if you didn’t buy something with it. Don’t pretend you don’t know what I mean.
Mark and I recently planned our big vacation for the year — we are going to Hawaii for a week and a half! I am so excited that I quickly commenced with the fantasy-shopping of swimsuits and such, and came across something at Bluefly that I actually needed — a pretty new cover-up, at an irresistible price:
As soon as I placed my order, I started mentally accessorizing. First order of business, a stack of gold bangles:
Those are actually exactly what I had in mind, but way more than I care to spend. I am thinking more along the lines of Harwin St. prices — I think I’ll need to make a trip over there soon! And then, obviously, I will need some practical but appropriately pretty flip-flops:
I was thinking about a wide-brimmed hat, but I don’t think the kind I like would pack easily, so maybe just a scarf to tame my mane, like so:
I already have my favorite sunglasses ever. I bought them over five years ago and liked them so much that I ordered two spares from Italy. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I am already on one of the spares and love them as much as I ever did. I will buy them again one day if I have to. Sometimes you just know.
Next up, I need the perfect beach playlist for my ipod. Any suggestions?
By Amber, on November 29, 2009, at 10:56 pm Still a little too busy relaxing with the family to post…

(Not my boat, unfortunately.)
However, I will share this — I could not access the regular Amrita Singh site most of the week. To apologize to their customers, they added a 50% off everything offer with the code ‘black.’ Still, I couldn’t get on all weekend. They sent out a mass email saying that the site should work for everyone now, but I still couldn’t access it, so I wrote to them and they were very helpful and responsive. I was finally able to log onto an alternative site and do my holiday shopping. They’ve held over both the gift certificate offer (spend $250, get $100) and the Black Friday 50% off everything offer, so if you were thinking about buying, do it now!
By Amber, on November 19, 2009, at 10:33 pm Man, it’s been a busy week, but we’re almost to the weekend. I don’t know about you, but I could use a little tranquility to help get me there:
Bass Harbor, Maine
What have you got planned? We have a few errands and I might start a little of my holiday shopping. Amrita Singh is having a special promotion: spend a cumulative $250 between now and Black Friday and you’ll receive a $100 Amrita Singh gift certificate on November 30th. That’s pretty tempting if you have a few stylish women on your list and maybe need a little extra bling to wear to all of those upcoming holiday parties.
Have a great weekend!
By Amber, on November 3, 2009, at 8:50 pm The ones that (almost) got away:

These are the earrings that I ordered from Editors’ Closet and was later told would not arrive. Well, Editors’ Closet had an Amrita Singh handbag sale coming up and I went directly to the Amrita Singh website to get a sense of whether I’d be interested in the goods, as well as what the normal prices were. While I was there, I did a quick check for these earrings, and they were on sale for only $10 more than I had agreed to pay at Editors’ Closet (see, I told you their prices are good!). They were such a perfect match for a dress I already had that I decided the price was worth it.
What’s better is that I found a 20% off coupon on retailmenot which negated the shipping price! Don’t you love it when that happens?
By Amber, on October 22, 2009, at 9:32 pm I was looking for an inexpensive, sparkly cocktail ring and this popped up one day in my size at Editors’ Closet:

I love the simple shape that won’t snag my clothing (or poke my eye out when I do something clumsy) and the sparkle. Plus I’m a sucker for zebra print and the design reminds me a little of that. I paid a third of the normal retail price.
I learned something interesting with this Editors’ Closet experience. I had also ordered a beautiful pair of earrings from the same sale, and assumed everything was good once my order was placed. About a week before my order arrived, I received an email that said there had been an inventory error and the earrings wouldn’t be coming. I was disappointed because they would have been perfect with a special dress that I already own, but for the inconvenience I was given a free $25 credit toward a future purchase. That’s a pretty sweet compensation when you consider how many items Editors’ Closet sells for about that price — it’s easily a different pair of earrings or another ring!
